John Carter (2012), directed by Andrew Stanton, is a visually stunning science fiction adventure based on Edgar Rice Burroughsโ€™ classic novel A Princess of Mars. Blending action, fantasy, and interplanetary adventure, the film follows a Civil War veteran transported to Mars (Barsoom), where he becomes a hero in a world on the brink of destruction.
Plot Summary
John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), a former Confederate soldier disillusioned by war, accidentally finds himself transported to Mars through a mysterious medallion. On Mars, he discovers that the planet is dying, its inhabitants locked in a brutal war between the cities of Helium and Zodanga.
Due to Marsโ€™ lower gravity, Carter possesses superhuman strength and agility. He is captured by the Tharks, a nomadic tribe of green-skinned, four-armed aliens led by Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe). As Carter struggles to understand this strange new world, he encounters Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins), the fierce and intelligent Princess of Helium, who is determined to save her people from destruction.
Reluctantly drawn into the planetโ€™s conflict, Carter must embrace his role as a hero to unite the warring factions and save Mars from annihilation.
