The Scream franchise began in 1996 with Wes Craven’s original movie, which followed the residents of the fictional town of Woodsboro as they dealt with a series of serial killers, each wearing a creepy ghost mask and often targeting Campbell’s character, Sidney Prescott. After Craven’s death in 2015, two new installments were released: Scream in 2022 and Scream VI in 2023, both directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett. In March 2024, Kevin Williamson, the original screenwriter of Scream, Scream 2, and Scream 4, was announced as the new director.
