COCO 2 (2025) is the long-awaited sequel to Pixar’s 2017 Academy Award-winning animated film Coco. The first film was a heartwarming exploration of family, culture, and the power of memory, centered around Miguel Rivera, a young boy who embarks on a journey to the Land of the Dead. With its vibrant celebration of Mexican traditions, particularly Día de los Muertos, Coco touched hearts worldwide. The upcoming sequel will continue the story of Miguel, now older, as he explores new facets of his heritage while facing new challenges that highlight the importance of family, identity, and the connections that bind generations.

COCO 2 picks up a few years after the events of the first movie. Miguel Rivera (voiced by Anthony Gonzalez) has grown into a talented musician, continuing his dream of playing music, much to the pride of his family, who now fully supports his musical journey. However, Miguel’s connection to his heritage, especially with his great-great-grandfather, Ernesto de la Cruz, has left him with a deeper curiosity about his family’s history in the Land of the Dead.

Miguel is invited back to the Land of the Dead, this time to meet new members of his family who were not featured in the first film. Along the way, he learns that there are still untold stories in his family’s past—some that are happy, and others that are filled with secrets and regrets.
