Story Snapshot

In the icy wilderness of the Arctic, Patrick Sumner, a disgraced ex-army surgeon, joins a whaling expedition on a ship called the Hvaldyr. Far from civilization, Sumner is drawn into a brutal world where danger lurks both at sea and within the shipโ€™s crew. The most chilling figure aboard is Henry Drax, a merciless harpooner whose thirst for violence knows no bounds. As the crew embarks on a dangerous hunt, survival is the only thing on anyoneโ€™s mind. Yet, something darker than the freezing waters stirs as the lines between hunter and prey blur.

Set in the late 19th century, The North Water is a dark and gripping tale about the extremes of human nature, moral boundaries, and the unyielding power of nature.

Why It Pops
