Silence is out today. This 2016 American historical drama, directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Jay Cocks and Scorsese, is based on the 1966 novel of the same name by Shūsaku Endō.

It stars Andrew Garfield, Adam Driver, Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, and Ciarán Hinds.
Set in the second half of the 17th century, two young Portuguese Jesuits travel to Japan in search of their mentor, the famous missionary Father Ferreira.

Recent rumors indicate that, after being persecuted and tortured, Ferreira has renounced his faith, a story hard to believe for the priests searching for him.
