Split Second (1992)

Split Second is a science fiction action thriller directed by Tony Maylam, starring Rutger Hauer as the lead character, Detective Harley Stone. Set in a dystopian future, the film takes place in a flooded, crime-ridden London in the year 2008. The story follows Stone, a tough and troubled cop who is haunted by the mysterious disappearance of his partner during a previous case.

As a series of brutal murders plague the city, Stone suspects that a monstrous, supernatural creature is responsible for the killings. The police force, however, is skeptical of his claims, leaving him to take matters into his own hands. When he is partnered with a new rookie officer, Detective Lottie (Kim Cattrall), they must work together to uncover the truth behind the gruesome murders while battling the unseen predator that stalks the city.

With a mix of action, horror, and dark humor, Split Second features intense chase sequences, gritty urban settings, and Hauerโs charismatic performance as a hardened detective. The film combines elements of science fiction with classic detective tropes, delivering a unique take on the buddy-cop genre.

While Split Second received mixed reviews upon its release, it has gained a cult following over the years for its intriguing premise, engaging performances, and distinctive blend of genres, making it a memorable entry in early ’90s action cinema.
