Moana (2016)

Moana (2016) is an animated musical adventure film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker. The film tells the story of Moana Waialiki (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho), a young Polynesian girl and the daughter of the chief of the island village of Motunui.
Despite her royal status, Moana feels a deep yearning to explore the ocean, which her people once navigated before they stopped voyaging due to a mysterious curse. When her island faces a crisis, Moana sets out on a journey to find the demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson), who she believes is the key to restoring the balance of nature.
Moana stands out as a story of self-discovery and empowerment. Moana embarks on an epic adventure across the sea to save her people, learning about leadership, courage, and her own identity along the way. Unlike many Disney princesses before her, Moana is not defined by a romantic subplot but rather by her relationship with her culture, her people, and her destiny.
The film’s soundtrack, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Opetaia Foa’i, and Mark Mancina, became a major highlight. Songs like “How Far I’ll Go,” “You’re Welcome” (sung by Maui), and “We Know the Way” are now widely regarded as some of Disney’s most memorable tunes. The music plays a vital role in conveying the themes of the film, with catchy and powerful songs that are both fun and deeply emotional.
