Black Water Abyss is a 2020 Australian survival horror film directed by Andrew Traucki. The film is a spiritual successor to Black Water (2007), which was based on real-life events and centered around a group of people stranded in a swamp, terrorized by crocodiles. In Black Water Abyss, the terror shifts to an even more dangerous setting, where a group of friends must survive a deadly situation involving both nature and their own fears.
Plot Overview
The film follows a group of friends who venture into a remote cave system in Northern Australia. The group consists of Becky (Jessica McNamee), her boyfriend, and a couple of their friends, all of whom are thrill-seekers hoping to explore the caveโ€™s mysterious and dangerous depths. While navigating the cave’s dark waters, they soon find themselves trapped after a flash flood forces them deeper into the cave system.
As they try to escape, they realize that they are not alone: a massive, predatory saltwater crocodile has also made its way into the cave, hunting them one by one. The group must now survive both the flooding waters and the relentless crocodile, all while navigating the dark, narrow cave and dealing with their own psychological and emotional stresses.
