Underworld: Awakening (2012) is the fourth installment in the Underworld film series, directed by Mรฅns Mรฅrlind and Bjรถrn Stein. The movie continues the story of Selene, a vampire death dealer, and delves deeper into the ongoing war between vampires and Lycans (werewolves). This film is set after the events of Underworld: Evolution (2006), but it introduces new elements that expand the mythology of the franchise.
Plot Overview:
In Underworld: Awakening, the film opens with a major shift in the battle between vampires and Lycans. The movie is set several years after the events of Underworld: Evolution, where a global “Purge” has been enacted, wiping out most vampires and Lycans. Selene (played by Kate Beckinsale), who was captured by humans and held in stasis, is awakened from cryogenic imprisonment when she is freed by a mysterious force. She finds herself in a world where both vampires and Lycans are nearly extinct and humans have become aware of the existence of these supernatural creatures.
After her escape, Selene embarks on a journey to find out what happened to her race and to rescue her loved ones, including Michael Corvin, who is believed to be dead. Along the way, she uncovers a dangerous new enemy, a new breed of super-Lycans, and an unexpected revelation about her daughter, Eve, who is a hybrid with a unique power that could change the war forever. As Selene teams up with other surviving vampires, including her mentor, David (played by Theo James), she battles both human forces and the monstrous Lycans to protect Eve and prevent a new apocalypse.
