See is a post-apocalyptic science fiction drama series that premiered on Apple TV+ in November 2019. Created by Steven Knight, it explores a world in which humanity has lost the ability to see due to a virus that ravaged the population centuries ago. The show is set in a distant future where sight is considered a mythical concept, and society has adapted to this blindness by developing heightened senses and alternative methods of survival.
Plot Overview
The series takes place in a world where nearly all of humanity has gone blind due to a catastrophic event known as the “genetic plague.” This event resulted in the birth of a new generation of humans who are all born without sight. Over the centuries, people have formed new civilizations that rely on heightened senses such as hearing, touch, and smell to navigate their environment. Technology has regressed, and humanity now lives in a more primitive state, relying on nature for survival.
The central character of See is Baba Voss (played by Jason Momoa), a powerful and protective warrior leader. He lives in a small village with his wife, Maghra (played by Hera Hilmar), and their children, who are believed to be the last surviving sighted humans in the world. The birth of these sighted children, a boy named Kofun and a girl named Haniwa, sets off a series of dangerous events, as their existence threatens the power structures in the world. Sight is considered a powerful and dangerous ability, and there are those who wish to exploit the childrenโ€™s sight for their own purposes, particularly a queen named Kane (played by Sylvia Hoeks), who believes that sight could be the key to ruling the world.
