Christopher Dubois, who has experienced the worst things in life, visits an island near Siam, where he trains to be a muay Thai fighter. He uses his skills to compete in a tournament.

Directed by and starring Jean-Claude Van Damme and adapted from a story he co-wrote with Frank Dux this mid 90’s action adventure isn’t his finest work, but I’ve always found it highly entertaining. With a plot that draws a few similarities from 1988’s Bloodsport this is actually really well filmed with pretty high production values and some stunning scenery to take in whilst you wait in anticipation for the action to in, but when it eventually does we’re treated to plenty of well choreographed fight sequences which display a whole host of different fighting techniques and all of this is elevated further by a terrific score by Randy Edelman.

Van Damme puts in another good performance in the lead and he’s well supported by James Remar, Janet Gunn, Jack McGhee, Aki Aleong, Louis Mandylor, Ryan Cutrona, Abdel Qissi, Kōji Kitao, Brick Bronsky, Peter Malota and Roger Moore as Dobbsy. All in all this movie is cheesy as hell in places, but it’s great fun and it’s possibly a little underrated.
