Rings (2017) is a supernatural horror film directed by F. Javier Gutiérrez, serving as the third installment in the Ring franchise. It is a continuation of the eerie and cursed videotape storyline introduced in the original The Ring (2002).
The film follows Julia (Matilda Lutz), a young woman who becomes increasingly concerned about her boyfriend Holt (Alex Roe), after he becomes involved in a dark subculture surrounding a mysterious video. This video allegedly curses anyone who watches it, causing their death exactly seven days after viewing it, unless they manage to pass the curse on to another person.

When Holt watches the video and his life is threatened by the menacing entity known as Samara, Julia sacrifices herself by watching the tape, determined to unravel the curse’s secrets and save him. As Julia delves deeper into the mystery, she uncovers new and terrifying aspects of Samara’s origins, leading her to horrifying revelations about the curse that no one could have anticipated.

Rings blends psychological horror and supernatural elements, continuing the franchise’s eerie tone with its iconic jump scares, disturbing imagery, and suspenseful atmosphere. It also expands on the mythology of Samara, giving fans a deeper look into the malevolent force behind the deadly videotape.
While receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film retains a chilling ambiance, appealing to fans of the Ring series and those who enjoy supernatural horror films.
